Some things to know about trash pickup in the City of Fairbury
GFL residential trash collection is on Monday, for south side residents and on Tuesday, for North side residents. Trash collection begins by 6 a.m. GFL video records their routes and fill out a "not out" sheet daily. If the driver drives by after 6 a.m. and the can is not out, the address is recorded with a time stamp of when they drove by. This is to keep track of those who were not out on time since it is the responsibility of GFL to return to collect trash that was missed.
Best practice is to set your can out the night before to ensure you are picked up. Collection times may vary, as circumstances vary. Sometimes there is a different driver who may not run the route the same way, weather & maintenance delays, etc. This is why we encourage everyone to set cans out the night before, but no later than 6 a.m. If your can was out on time but you were still missed, please contact City Hall so that we can have you picked up. The City communicates with GFL regularly so that we can keep our resident's in the loop. If there is a delay, as soon as we are aware we will post on our website and app. You can signup for text & email notifications at www.fairburyil.gov or turn push notifications on in the City of Fairbury App. The event calendar on the app and website has been updated with the 2025 garbage and recycle schedule.
Additionally, the City Street Department does bulk pickup every Tuesday. Bulk pickup is for items, such as large furniture pieces, that will not fit in the GFL can. The first two items are no additional charge. Any items after the first two are $10 per item. The City has dumpsters available for rental for large cleanout projects. Dumpster rental requests can be submitted online or in the app.
Please reach out to City Hall if you have any questions. Thank you

Friendly reminder, when snowfall of 2 or more inches is expected, kindly ensure all vehicles are removed from City Streets to allow City plows to properly remove snow. Thank you for your cooperation & stay safe out there.

A Cross-Connection Control Survey from the IEPA is being mailed out to all City of Fairbury residents today. Included with the survey is an informational letter telling you about the survey, and ways to complete it. You can mail/turn in the form to City Hall OR use our app "City of Fairbury" OR our website at www.fairburyil.gov to return the form to us electronically. You can find the survey under "Forms and Applications" on our website or under "Forms" on our app.

Due to a delay this morning, South side trash was not picked up on N & S running roads, from 2nd St west. These effected streets will be picked up tomorrow, so please leave your trash at the curb. As a reminder, GFL trash collection begins at 6 a.m. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Friendly reminder, when snow fall is anticipated in the forecast, vehicles shall not be parked on City Streets that will prohibit snow removal. Snow is NOT to be pushed or shoveled into City Streets or Alleyways.
